Basic Options

For ease of use, the WebCorp options are divided into basic and advanced options. The Basic Interface is the default and includes the following options:

WebCorp Basic Interface

  • Search Term: A word, phrase or pattern for which linguistic context is required. You do not need to put quotation marks around the search term. WebCorp's pattern matching options are explained here.

  • Search Engine: WebCorp works 'on top of' existing web search engines. This option allows you to specify which search engine you would like WebCorp to use. Different search engines cover different sub-sets of the Web's content. The default search engine is currently Google.

  • Concordance Span: The number of words to display as the left and right contexts of the search term. The values available here are 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 words to the left and to the right, with 5 words as the default. The Advanced Interface offers more choices.

  • Case Options: Specify whether the search should be case sensitive or case insensitive. Case sensitive is the default, meaning that only the exact search term that you enter will be matched. (Standard web search engines vary in this respect, often giving you matches in both upper and lower case for a lower case search term.)

  • Send Results by Email: If you do not want to wait for WebCorp to produce output then you can enter your email address and have the results emailed to you (in ASCII format) when processing is complete.
